That secondary issue created the initial heavy fire conditions, which challenged our crews. That fire created a secondary issue just a few feet away, when a semi-trailer loaded with truck tires parked immediately adjacent the building caught on fire. HFD investigation confirmed that an employee working inside the building with a cutting torch that accidently contributed to starting the building on fire stated. "Somebody was saying somebody was using a torch in there, caught a gas tank on fire. The employee went on to say that when he got there, a fire was on the floor and one of the vehicles on the hoist had caught on fire. By the time I ran over there, it was too far gone," he said. "I turned around, saw the fire in the Quonset and grabbed a fire extinguisher out of the back of my truck. The employee said he and at least four of his co-workers tried to control the fire. But, despite the initial hopeless appearance, most of the auto salvage business survived.Īccording to local news reports, an employee of the auto parts company said it didn't take more than 15 minutes before half the Quonset was engulfed. Upon arrival, initial size-up observed the well-advanced fire had burned through the roof of the main building and was heavily impinging on the adjacent exposures, some of which were located within 20 feet of the main building structure fire.

The full first alarm assignment had to contend with a fully involved main building structure fire along with several exposure buildings and enclosed semi-trailers. In May 2014, that dedication was put to the test as fire crews from Howard, Hobart/Lawrence, Pulaski Tri-County, Suamico and Green Bay Metro Fire battled a fire at an auto parts supply and recycling company in Howard. Likewise, the community maintains a strong fire department that is well resourced and well trained. The Village of Howard Fire Department located in Northeast Wisconsin constantly strives to gain and hold the respect and loyalty of their community residents and businesses by providing the best possible emergency services.
